Privacy policy
FactSift is an app that fact-checks social media posts. This policy explains what FactSift collects when you use it, why, who else processes it, how long it is kept, and how you can delete it. "We" means Oliosoft, the developer of FactSift. You can reach us at contact@oliosoft.com.
The short version
- You don't need an account. FactSift creates an anonymous one when you first open it.
- The posts you check are sent to an AI service and a search service so they can be checked. That is the only reason we send them anywhere.
- Screenshots are deleted after 30 days. Your check history stays until you delete it.
- We don't sell your data. Ads come from Google AdMob, which asks for consent where the law requires it.
- You can delete your history, or your whole account, from the app at any time.
What FactSift collects
| Data | What it is | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Posts you check | The text, links and screenshots you paste or share to FactSift, and the results we produce. | To check the post and show you the result and your history. |
| Account | An anonymous account ID. If you sign in with Google, your name and email address. | To keep your history and credits, and to restore purchases on a new phone. |
| Device key | A one-way hash of the ID Android gives FactSift on your phone. We never see the ID itself. | To count free checks and rewarded ads per phone, so reinstalling doesn't reset them. |
| Allowance and purchases | Free checks used, credits, rewarded ads watched, whether you removed ads, purchase order IDs, and the IDs of rewarded ads you completed. | To give you what you are entitled to, and grant each purchase and ad reward once. |
| Notification token | A token from Firebase Cloud Messaging, if you allow notifications. | To tell you when a check has finished. |
| Reports | The reason you give when you report a wrong verdict. | To find and fix wrong results. |
| Usage records | For each check, how much AI processing and how many searches it used, its language and whether it had a screenshot. Not the post itself. | To understand and control running costs. |
| App integrity | A Google Play Integrity verdict, through Firebase App Check. | To make sure requests come from the real app on a genuine device. |
FactSift doesn't ask for your location, contacts, photos library (only the screenshots you choose), microphone or camera.
Who processes your data
We use these services to run FactSift. Each receives only what it needs for its part.
Google Firebase
Stores your account, checks, screenshots and allowance, runs our servers, and sends notifications. Data is stored in Google Cloud's Mumbai, India region (asia-south1). Firebase privacy
Anthropic (Claude)
Reads the post's text, link preview and screenshot to find its factual claims, then weighs the evidence for each. Anthropic receives the post content but not your account details. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not use this data to train its models. Anthropic privacy
Serper
Runs the web searches used as evidence. It receives search queries written from the post's claims, never your account details. Serper privacy
Google Fact Check Tools
We look up the post's claims in published fact-checks. It receives the claim text only.
Websites in posts and search results
To read a linked post or a source, our servers fetch the page. The website sees a request from our servers, not from your phone. For X and TikTok links we use their public embed services.
Google AdMob
Shows banner and rewarded ads, unless you have removed ads. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and device information to show and measure ads. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, FactSift asks for your consent first through Google's consent form. You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your Android settings. How Google uses data from ads
When you watch a rewarded ad, AdMob tells our servers that the ad was completed, together with your FactSift account ID and device key, so we can add your extra check. Google signs this message so it can't be forged.
Google Play and RevenueCat
Google Play handles payment when you buy checks or remove ads. RevenueCat, our purchase-management provider, receives the purchase from Google Play together with your FactSift account ID, confirms it, and tells our servers what to add to your account. We and RevenueCat receive the order details, never your card or payment details. RevenueCat privacy
We don't sell your personal data or share it for anyone else's marketing.
How long we keep it
- Screenshots: deleted automatically 30 days after you add them.
- Check history and reports: kept until you delete them, or delete your account.
- Account, credits and purchases: kept until you delete your account.
- Shared results: when you check a text post, the result is cached so anyone who checks exactly the same text in the next 7 days gets it straight away. The cache isn't linked to you or your account.
- Device key counts: today's counts of free checks and rewarded ads per phone. They aren't linked to a person and stay after an account is deleted, so deleting an account can't be used to reset free checks.
- Usage records: kept for our accounts. When you delete your history or account, they are unlinked from you.
Your choices
- Delete your history: Account → Delete my data. This removes your checks, reports and screenshots. Credits are kept.
- Delete your account: when signed in, Account → Delete account. This removes everything above plus your account, credits and purchases. More about deleting your account
- Notifications: turn them off in Android's settings for FactSift at any time.
- Ads: change ad consent or personalisation in Android's settings, or remove ads with a one-time purchase.
- Access or correction: email us and we'll send you a copy of your data or correct it.
Depending on where you live, including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and the EU and UK GDPR, you may have further rights, such as to object to processing or to complain to a data protection authority. Email us to use any of them.
Security
Data travels encrypted between the app and our servers. Only you can read your own checks and account, and everything you change goes through our servers, which check that the request is yours.
Children
FactSift is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used FactSift, email us and we'll delete their data.
AI results
Verdicts are produced by AI from public sources and can be wrong. Read the sources before you rely on a result, and report a verdict you think is wrong from the result screen.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If a change affects how your data is used, we'll tell you in the app first.
